BASIC FUNCTION: A Transportation Routing Coordinator creates and maintains regular and special needs routes to provide safe, efficient, and economical transportation for the students of the district. Develops and continuously monitors routes to optimize the efficiency of critical school bus resources. This position assists in developing and adjusting district transportation policies and procedures that support district growth and/or the changes in student home and school demographics. QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school, two years of experience involving data input and computer operations. Incumbents must have effective oral and written communication; analytical ability; and knowledge and skill in the use of office technology and office software, which includes mapping and routing. systems, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, sheets, docs, and forms. Previous experience performing duties as a bus driver is preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform various clerical duties in support of assigned routing activities such as typing, filing, duplicating, and distributing materials. Design, develop, and maintain bus routes, schedules, and stops in accordance with district policy and Indiana law. Ensure efficiency of time and vehicles throughout the system Serve as a department routing liaison to the public. Assist in the preparation and execution of the route bid process. Adjust routes in response to program needs, student transportation attendance, student enrollment, roadwork, and parent/school concerns. Communicate with impacted drivers, school personnel, students, and families. Have a strong working knowledge of the local geographic area. Monitor municipal road improvement and construction schedules and adjust bus routes as needed. Ensures data integrity by maintaining accurate and complete records. Monitor and ensure the accuracy of system data. Monitor, run and ensure the accuracy of regular and special reports. Collaborate with department technology staff for the ongoing support of the district’s routing software. Evaluate and provide feedback on new technology purchases such as GPS tracking, tablet-generated route directions, bus proximity notification, and student electronic tagging devices. Perform duties as a substitute bus driver, bus assistant, or dispatcher as needed. Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the department as well as other school personnel and community members. Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the district’s mission Perform related duties as assigned by administrators which could include work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload of the department. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets the standards in place by the district. or within six months of hire must be able to attain and maintain an Indiana Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) and Indiana Bus Driver Certification.
