PURPOSE
Perform skilled plumbing activities and services in the inspection, repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance systems, equipment and devices.

MINIMUM QUALIFACTIONS
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program in the plumbing trade with current license and three years journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems. Incumbents must possess knowledge of the technical aspects, methods, materials, terminology, principles, practices, procedures and equipment used in the assigned field. Incumbents must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license and may be required to work non-scheduled hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Install, maintain and repair valves, control devices, pumps, toilets, pipes, fittings, sinks, drains, backflow preventers and cross-connection devices, faucets, water heaters and various other equipment, parts, devices and fixtures; inspect, diagnose and resolve plumbing problems in schools and other District facilities.
2. Clean out drains and remove obstructions from water and sewer systems, sinks, toilets, urinals and drinking fountains; inspect and repair leaks and general system failures; replace leaking and defective parts in plumbing fixtures and systems.
3. Repair or replace damaged pipes, tubing and sewer lines; cut, thread and connect pipes; assemble joints utilizing solder, lead, Pro-Press, glue and thread cutting.
4. Maintain storm drains and sewer lines; operate and lift a variety of sewer cleaning equipment; work in open excavations to repair broken water, storm and sewer pipes as necessary.
5. Operate a variety of specialized equipment including various hand and power tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
6. Plan, organize and lay out assigned tasks; interpret plans, diagrams, blueprints, sketches and specifications; estimate time, material and equipment needs for projects.
7. Receive and respond to work orders; inspect facilities and equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs; perform preventive maintenance activities.
8. Assist the District with assuring compliance with building codes applicable to the plumbing trade.
9. Coordinate and conduct major plumbing system renovation projects as directed.
10. Crawl and work in tight areas including tunnels.
11. Perform work from ladders and lifts as needed.
12. Support and assist custodial personnel in the training of the proper operation of plumbing and mechanical equipment.
13. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

The employee is required to walk or stand for extended periods of time. The employee will perform assigned duties which require bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally. The employee will be required to lift, carry, push or pull moderately heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds. Employees must be able to climb ladders and work from heights as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking at will and has limited physical labor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. |
