JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide District schools with a variety of health services including consultation and health education activities; serve as a technical resource and liaison concerning student health services, issues, problems and related information; monitor, evaluate and provide health services, referrals and education to meet student needs and enhance student health and well-being.

 

QUALIFICACTIONS:
Incumbents must possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State and a valid Indiana driver's license; and two years experience providing public health, nursing, health education or related services. Must have strong office, computer and oral and written communication skills. Incumbents must possess knowledge of the technical aspects, methods, processes, principles, practices, procedures and terminology used in assigned field. Must successfully complete drug screening requirements. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
l. Provide District schools with a variety of health services including consultation and health education activities; monitor, assess and adjust activities in response to student health needs and issues; assist in assuring health services comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.

2. Serve as a technical resource and consultant to students and staff concerning health services, issues, problems and related information; respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning health screenings, treatment, resources, practices, processes, programs and related laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

3. Visit school sites to provide technical health information and services in accordance with established schedules; coordinate and provide health education events and activities for students and staff; present materials and information concerning student health, well-being, nutrition, communicable diseases and other health issues and problems; prepare and deliver oral presentations.

4. Advise and counsel students and staff concerning health issues, acute and chronic health problems, and related programs and services; develop and implement appropriate interventions, case management and referrals; make home visits in the investigation and resolution of student health issues and problems as needed.

5. Serve as a liaison and coordinate health services, communications, activities and information between students, families, personnel, schools, health care agencies, community resources, outside organizations and the public; resolve issues and conflicts related to health issues and services in a proper and timely manner.

6. Refer students and staff to appropriate health services, health care agencies, medical professionals and community resources in accordance with student needs; follow up on health care referrals and screenings to assure health needs are being met; coordinate and provide appropriate emergency health services as needed.

7. Research, compile, assemble, evaluate and verify a variety of health data and information in the identification of student health status, issues and progress; maintain and update student health information including medical and developmental history; establish and maintain cumulative student health records and fields.

8. Develop, implement, coordinate and conduct in-services and other training activities for faculty, staff and administrators concerning student health care programs and services; explain related principles, theories, standards, guidelines, requirements, practices, procedures and techniques to enhance school staff knowledge and skills related to student health services.

9. Collaborate with local agencies in providing and enhancing health services for students and families.

l0. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to students, health information, referrals, health education and assigned activities.

ll. Prepare and distribute a variety of informational materials and correspondence related to health care education.

l2. Keep the Specialist of Health Services current concerning student health issues, needs and activities.

l3. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.
 
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
*New employees must successfully complete their probationary period to be eligible to apply for posted positions.

*Employees must remain in their current position a minimum of sixty (60) calendar days to be eligible to apply for any non-lateral posted position.

*Current non-probationary employees may only apply for lateral positions at the end of each school year.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. They may be occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking at will. The incumbent will be required to lift, carry and/or push students weighing more than 50 pounds in wheelchairs as assigned.
