BASIC FUNCTION:
Drive a Special Purpose Bus (SPB) for Study Connection safely and efficiently to assigned locations along designated routes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to perform assigned duties. Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license. The employee must have strong oral and written communication skills. Incumbents must be a critical thinker and be able to make decisions in the supervisor’s absence. Prefer candidate have experience working with students of diverse backgrounds. He or she must be able to multi-task, have excellent organization, patience and time management skills, experience with two-way radios beneficial.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide general communication to Community Programs staff; operate a two-way radio to communicate with Community Programs personnel.
2. Provide order on the Special Purpose Bus (SPB) and manage a safe environment on the buses for elementary age students; report behavior issues to appropriate personnel; assure student understanding of bus rules.
3. Pick up and discharge students as required in accordance with established time lines; observe legal and defensive driving practices in all weather elements and road conditions.
4. Conduct required daily safety inspections of buses; inspect interior, exterior and engine of buses to assure safe operational condition; report mechanical malfunctions or other problems as needed; maintain buses in a clean and safe operating condition.
5. Collaborate with Coordinator in establishing and maintaining student bus stops and transportation schedules.
6. Maintain and update routing sheets; contact parents or guardians to establish route pickup or delivery times as assigned; notify appropriate supervisor of changes in routes.
7. Perform related duties as assigned by the Coordinator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking at will and has limited physical labor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. |
