BASIC FUNCTION:

Organize, direct, coordinate and oversee various aquatics programs, facility, staff and patrons, promoting and implementing state-of-the-art safety policies and procedures. Works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. Direct and participate in the preparation, maintenance, processing, analysis and auditing of data, records and reports.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work. Bachelor degree is preferred. The employee must have one year supervisory experience and one year experience instructing classes. Prefer experience with competitive swimming and meet operations. The incumbent must possess knowledge of methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials, requirements, processes and equipment applicable to assigned field. The employee must possess strong analytical, computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. The incumbent must have experience working with, and involving frequent public contact with a diverse population. The employee must be a licensed lifeguard through Ellis&Associates (InternationalLifeguardTrainingProgram);becertified inWater Safety Instruction through the American Red Cross; be able to obtain a lifeguard instructor license through Ellis & Associates (International Lifeguard Training Program) within eight (8) months of hire; be able to obtain National Instructor's Certification through the Aquatic Exercise Association within eight (8) months of hire; be able to obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within six (6) months of hire.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Supervise the facility personnel. Assign responsibilities, establish work schedules, and evaluate performance. Conduct required in-service training for staff covering policies and procedures, safety requirements, and specific individual accountabilities.

 

2. Maintain and communicate operating policies and procedures for the facility including instructions, safety regulations and special or emergency procedures to protect the facility and its patrons. Ensure strict adherence to the established policies and procedures through staff training, postings and enforcement.

 

3. Train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; participate in the interview and selection employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; assign employee duties and review work to assure accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures.

 

4. Provide technical training and assistance to FWCS employees regarding Natatorium activities and related functions; respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning related standards, requirements, data, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.

 

5. Maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, regulations, and pending legislature related to the payroll function; adjust activities to meet State and federal requirements as appropriate.

 

6. Enforce and assure guest compliance with pool use, diving board, lap swimming and other applicable rules, regulations and policies; respond to complaints from guests, staff and others; report incidents and guest behavior problems to appropriate authority.

 

7. Provide lifeguard services; water exercise instruction; water safety instruction; teach swim/dive lessons to students, guest, rental groups, athletes and others in a safe and healthy manner as needed. Monitor swimming pool activities to maintain a safe, healthy and controlled environment for guests. Observe Natatorium pool activities in accordance with established guidelines, policies and procedures.

 

8. Oversee Natatorium activities in accordance with established guidelines and procedures;overseeswimanddivemeets.Develop,implementandarrangerelated events and activities; operate timing system in accordance with established guidelines.

 

9. Identify pool health and safety issues, threats and incidents. Enter pool and swim to rescue and retrieve guests as needed. Utilize rescue tube as needed. Inspect and assure proper operating condition of rescue equipment.

 

10. Maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, regulations and pending legislature related to the Board of Health and Center for Disease Control. Meet state and federal standards and codes for facility cleanliness, water quality, air quality and guest use. Enforce policies and protocol to meet said laws and codes.

 

11. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to sit and stand for extended periods of time. The employee must perform assigned duties which require bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally. The incumbent is required to be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 50 pounds. The employee must meet all requirements as stated in the International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP); Water Safety Instruction through the American Red Cross; the National Instructor's Certification through the Aquatic Exercise Association; and Certified Pool Operator (CPO)certification.
