BASIC FUNCTION:
The Communications Manager supports student success by ensuring Fort Wayne Community Schools communications are aligned with District goals and by facilitating the development of accurate and timely internal/external communication and information processes that contribute to and encourage community involvement in the District’s efforts to meet the instructional needs of students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee School Web Content Coordinators, who will be responsible for ensuring school websites are up-to-date with calendars, events, photos and videos.
- Manage District website content, including department pages, to ensure information, photos, calendars and videos are up-to-date.
- Oversee design of FWCS website to ensure it follows the FWCS brand and marketing plan.
- Manage District website content, including department pages, following best practices and industry standards for the most effective and efficient communication of key messages.
- Manage FWCS Intranet to assist users and ensure content is up-to-date.
- Work closely with the Communications team of FWCS in all communication platforms.
- Serve as back-up spokesperson, working with media to promote FWCS and providing accurate information in the absence of the Communications Director.
- Develop content for The Visionary, the community monthly newsletter.
- Assist in planning, developing, posting and monitoring social media content on FWCS social media channels.
- Monitor and respond to dialogues in Let’s Talk.
- Analyze Let’s Talk metrics to ensure FWCS schools and departments are meeting communication expectations.
- Contact local media outlets and update FWCS communication channels during weather emergencies.
- Coordinate with the Director during a crisis to ensure accurate and timely information is shared with families, students, staff and media.
- Develop relationships with staff members in schools and departments to provide support in communicating positive stories to families, staff, media and the community.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with all legal requirements in fulfilling Public Records Requests as required under Indiana’s Public Access Laws.
- Assist the Director – Marketing and Communications in the production of meetings of the FWCS Board of School Trustees.
- Organize and prioritize projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Responsible for Employee Recognitions, Teacher of the Year.
- Collaborate in planning Retirement Dinner.
- Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications or public relations.
- 3-5 years of experience in journalism, public relations or related experience.
- Experience with various social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Vimeo and TikTok.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Clear understanding of web and social media best practices, including how to implement them.
- Experience with Google Analytics, as well as an ability to collect and interpret data, providing recommendations based on these insights.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with frequent content needs.
- Demonstrated time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
