JOB DESCRIPTION:

Perform a variety of administrative assistant duties to relieve the Unit Head of administrative detail; provide administrative support for student discipline and directed; monitor students and other designated assignments.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform a variety of administrative assistant duties to relieve the Building Principal of administrative detail.

 

2. Provides liaison services; initiate, screen and receive telephone calls; take, retrieve and relay messages as needed; serve as a liaison between the Building Principal, teachers, FWCS staff, outside agencies, students, parents and the community.

 

3. Receive visitors, including administrators, staff, students, parents and the public; provide assistance or direct to appropriate staff; exercise independent judgment in resolving a variety of issues; refer difficult issues to the administrator.

 

4. Compile information and prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs and reports related to students, discipline and assigned duties; establish and maintain filing systems.

 

5. Provide administrative support for student discipline functions as directed; make home visits to discuss discipline and attendance issues, school matters and other information as assigned.

 

6. Monitor students during outdoor, cafeteria, hallway, study hall, bus loading and unloading, before and after school, and various other school activities as assigned; observe and control student behavior in accordance with FWCS policies and procedures; identify and report behavior issues to appropriate personnel.

 

7. Participate in registering and enrolling new students; review, verify documents for new students.

 

8. Operate a variety of office equipment including a calculator, copier, fax machine, typewriter, computer and assigned software.

 

9. Monitor inventory levels of office and designated school supplies; order, receive, distribute and maintain appropriate levels of inventory.

 

10. Provide back-up health services as assigned by the position; administer basic first aid to students as assigned by the position; dispense medications in accordance with FWCS policies and physician instructions.

 

11. Analyze collected data on student behavior; attend conferences a needed for Student Success Team (SSTs) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIPs).

 

12. Participate in the Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification (CPI); have a thorough knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and attend Tier 1 and Tier 2/3 meetings to assist in strategies or procedures to improve behavioral success.

 

13. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

 

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:

  • New employees must successfully complete their probationary period to be eligible to apply for posted positions. 
  • Employees must remain in their current position a minimum of sixty (60) calendar days to be eligible to apply for any non-lateral posted position. 
  • Current non-probationary employees may only apply for lateral positions at the end of each school year.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. They may be occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking at will. The incumbent will be required to lift, carry, push or pull objects or students in wheelchairs, weighing 50 pounds or more as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and four years of clerical or secretarial experience involving frequent public contact. Must have strong office, computer, public relations and oral and written communication skills. Incumbents must possess knowledge of the terminology, practices and procedures of assigned office.
